Tim Hortons VS Dunkin Donuts

I miss Tim Hortons. Wow, never thought I'd say that out loud.

The only closest relative in New York is .... (wait for it) .... Dunkin Donuts.

I know, I was just as surprised. As superficial as it may sound, I think of Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme as one in the same. High calorie, greasy, deep-fried donut shops. Tim Hortons is almost a Canadian tradition. It was started by a hockey player - how more authentic Canadian can you get? I don't know why but I also feel like it's a "healthier" alternative. (mm I miss their chilli). Anything with "donut" in its name doesn't exactly scream slimmer waistline. (not that Tim Hortons does either, but you know what I mean). Dunkin Donuts (to me) = fast food. Tim Hortons = cultural staple (in comparison).

I gave the Double D (minds out of the gutter) a try last summer after M (trying to avoid using personal names haha) in my office was appalled that I'd NEVER tried a cup of DD coffee. I asked her in retaliation if she'd ever tried Tim Hortons. (She'd never even HEARD of it!)
The next morning I found a cup of DD coffee (with milk) on my desk and a note asking for me to report back on what I thought. It was a good cup of coffee - I'll give it that. A nice warm treat. But perhaps its my Cdn roots / bias - but it still wasn't as good as Tim Hortons. (I'm not a diehard Tim Hortons fan btw...I've definitely seen a few on Western's campus though...its just that its the right price for my student budget!)

[I never told M that though. She was nice enough to buy me a large coffee, I couldn't dig the knife in deeper saying that I still liked Tims better...I played it neutral & just said that I enjoyed it haha]

My Dad later mailed a box of Tim Hortons "Timbits" (coffee would have been a bit challenging) for the office to sample. "M" was quick to point out that they reminded her of Dunkin Donuts "munchkins." Ahem, I'm pretty sure DD copied Tim's on this one. What the heck is a munchkin anyway? That name can't be politically correct. It's called a timbit people. (Everyone in the office still asks me about the "TIDBITS" my Dad sent....I tried to correct them on numerous occasions...lost battle)

Anyway - the point to this long executed story is that after all this debate about whether Tim's is better than Dunkin's...... NEW YORK IS GETTING A TIM HORTONS!!!!

They're partnering with Cold Stone Creamery (similar to Marble Slab) and are opening 3 locations in Manhattan this august. See article here

Sorry M, but it looks like Timmy Ho's takes the cake (or coffee) on this one.
