Little J's Birthday !

CINDY LOU ..... WHO!?

Taylor Momsen's Sweet Sixteen was definitely a memorable occasion.  Although by the way she dressed ... and sang ... it seemed as though we should have been celebrating her 21st.  The cute bubbly blonde that debuted in "The Grinch" has come a long way since then.  She's now starring in the CW's hit "Gossip Girl" and the lead (only female member) of the rock band The Pretty Reckless.

Her style has evolved over the years as well.  Once a clean cut, California blonde - she's now chopped her hair into a raggedy mess & gone a little too heavy on the bleach.  Her raccoon eyes are overly rimmed in kohl & blood red lips channel Courtney Love when she could still speak without slurring.  (Note:  Check out this article from nymag.com where Court bashes her young look-a-like through her twitter account)

Now given her drastically altered appearance, I was a little apprehensive when I heard her band was going to be performing a set at the party.  I'd seen a youtube clip of her "music" and didn't quite know what to make of it.

A "Happy Birthday Taylor" screen rose as lights flickered & the sounds of a thunderstorm overtook the speakers.  Taylor appeared in a cloud of smoke with the rest of her 3-male band. Clad in a revealing pink babydoll overtop of a black lace bra, complete with leather "hooker" boots it appeared that "Little J" wasn't well....so little anymore.  Perhaps this was her public display of rebellion for all (including her parents & costars) to see.  Her recent Teen Vogue Interview also eludes to the fact that she acts & thinks beyond her years.

When asked about dating she responds: "My parents know that I'm not going to date someone who's sixteen. Boys are so much less mature than girls as it is; there's just no way — I would eat a boy my age alive."

Also, when asked about high school (which most 16 yr olds attend): "I found [high school] kind of boring [She finished two years early]. I'm an artist; I'm not going to use trigonometry. "

Feisty, Little J.

In any case - her vocals actually turned out not to be that bad, for a 16 year old at least!   You would see sparks of her girlish nature as she giddily spoke into the mic between songs.  Then it was back to her C-Love inspired gestures & singing.

It was mesmerizing to watch.  For some reason all I could think of was cute little Cindy Lou, her buck teeth & big eyelashes....now in lingerie...swearing into a microphone...what a bizarre transformation.

After The Pretty Reckless "rocked" the house (yeah dude) the small crowd sang Happy Birthday while Taylor's mom & sister brought a cake out onstage.  Tay blew out her candles as deeelicious cupcakes were brought out for the partygoers.

The entire cast of Gossip Girl (minus Dan & Serena) mingled amongst the crowd most of the night, ate cupcakes & occasionally returned to their VIP booths.  Funny enough, Eric (Taylor's on-screen brother & real-life friend) was mobbed the most for pictures.  Other than that, everyone was just enjoying the party & paid little attention to the famous cast weaving amongst them.

Apparently they were also filming Bravo's newest show "NYC Prep"  at the party as well.  My friend Jenn pointed out one of the stars Sebastian, who according to nymag.com is potentially dating Taylor?  Not quite sure the deal.  I've never seen the show.

All in all, it was a fabulous party and kind of made me wish I was 16 again ... maybe just a little.
